A Biological Copyright

One of the most surreal patents I’ve ever read, I stumbled on tonight. It was an imaging apparatus (camera) that uses biological data, in this case from a human iris, to record the copyright owner of the photographs. Photographybay has a detailed run down of the patent that Canon has applied for.

This could be a great tool for photographes that have lost untold amount of revenue do to digital pirates. On the other hand those sophomoric pranks that are recorded on camera just before they backfire might not want this data recorded.

Another great piece of news photographically speaking CPQ a professional photo lab in Cleveland, TN. sent an email out announcing they will continue to develop film at least through 2008. This was after they planned to end the service on the 15th of this month. I’ve got a lot of cameras and I’m not against digital, but I just like to shoot film when it there isn’t a deadline for the photos. After thirty-something years you can accumalate a lot of cameras and some of my favorites are the Hassleblads, Mamiya RB67s and Nikon FMs. I’ll be sending a few rolls CPQ’s way very soon.
