Sunday is meant to be a slow day before the week begins. Well unless you’re one of the 43 drivers at the Daytona 500. It was a wild run for the 50th running of the great race. The Toyotas from Joe Gibbs Racing looked to own the race. Kyle Busch led the most laps, unfortunately for him those laps didn’t include the the last one. When Ryan Newman took the lead at lap 183 after Clint Boyer spun out to bring on the fifth caution of the race. Newman had a helping pump from team mate Kurt Busch to get him past Tony Stewart in the last lap. After an 81 race drought Newman won his and team owner Roger Penske’s first Daytona 500. Mr. Newman gets a trip to New York to be David Letterman Monday night.

The race was an upset in a lot ways. No one thought the Toyotas would have a good a showing as they did, with Stewart and Kyle Busch coming in third and fouth. And no one would have predicted at Dodge would be in victory lane at the end. The odds were 80 to 1, rumor has it. It really looks like NASCAR’s car of tomorrow may force teams to cooperate more to win with these new horses.
