Meshing of the Medias

I saw on No Silence Here about what YouTube is doing to harness the wave “Citizen Journalist” and the company has started hiring of staff to manage to the content. I can’t help but wonder how many people will add the channel to their Apple TV.

Will this completely change the face of broadcast news? Probably not over night, but it might add another color to the spectrum over time. It does show that the “Citizen Journalist” is getting noticed more. CNN, NBC and others are adding avenues for folks to submit news as they see it happen. The concept of someone capturing images and turning over/selling to news outlets is nothing new. Some amateur journalist reporting the news in some cases have won awards from organizations for professional journalist. In 1947 Arnold Hardy won the Pulitzer Prize for Photography for a photograph he took of a woman jumping for the window of the Winecoff Hotel fire in Atlanta, Georgia. We might have to wait a while for the online video journalist to pick up a grand award.
You might have seen the story about Nathan Zammit from Deltona, Florida reported on NBC or MSNBC tonight. I found it interesting that the story came about from an open letter he posted to Sen. Ted Kennedy as a comment on Brian William’s blog.

Anybody that’s read my blog more than once has found out I’m a racing fan. I’ve covered about every type racing there’s been for years and when I’m not at a race I’m watching it. Bob Parson, who start a video blog recently, has his reasons for Godaddy’s sponsorship of the Indy 500. His blog reminds me that this weekend will be one of the busiest for a race fan. You’re got the Indianapolis 500, Coca Cola 600 and the Monte Carlo Grand Prix all going on Sunday. I’ve got to free up some space on my DVR.
