Balloon Boy the Song and the Play at Home Version
What looked like a cheesy Flying Saucer from bad 1950′s Sci Fi movie was the lede in most news markets today. It’s not everyday a parent walks away leaving children unattended with an experimental aircraft. The Dow broke 10,000 today also, if only it had climbed to level in balloon. Thankfully Falcon Heene was not on board the homemade Mylar zeppelin.
When I was police officer this type of incident was called a “water haul”. The term came from the early days of fire fighters where the trucks would have to haul water to the scene of fire as fast as they could only to find out that the fire or emergency didn’t exist. The bright side of the airborne event was now the Colorado emergency agencies in the flight path will know what to expect next time there is runaway dirigible call.
Balloon Boy (as the world now calls him) was unavoidable to watch. Just when you think you have seen everything, there goes a homemade blimp the sky and a child is missing. The event will become a cultural icon like the Baby in the Well and Lorena Bobbitt. (I saw she was taking golf lessons. She has a terrible slice).
As will all legends, there is now a song several songs about the Balloon Boy saga. I don’t expect Kanye West to storm the stage to pull a V.M.A. or Grammy away from any of these song smiths.
If you missed the live coverage of the Balloon Boy or just want to recreate the event in your living room you are in luck. You can order your very own mini radio controlled Flying Saucer at Amazon. A few years I ordered one for a father/son/daughter project. We drove the pets crazy and disturbed the cosmic balance in the house.
