Crushing Video Camera

2009 October 18

I just finished reading Gary Vaynerchuk’s book Crush It!: Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion, it is a great read. Gary is the guy who created Wine Library TV, a popular video blog about wine, and built a multi million dollar business with virtually no big investment in its promotion. He burns up social media like Twitter and Facebook to make sure everyone thinks of him and Wine Library TV when they think of wine.

An easy-to-use, pocket-sized HD camcorder

I won’t spill out everything in the book, but there was thing I will share, the video hardware he kept mentioning. The Flip video camera. The bulk of the videos are shot on the cheap and simple to use pocket sized video camera. If he is using something more expensive or elaborate, he didn’t tell it. The best part of the book was that he did not start spouting out a long shopping list of product and services needed to promote yourself and you business. It was a no brainer that if he was going to promote using Internet videos he was going to have to have a camera. He kept it simple focusing more on content than the behind the scene’s equipment.

The Flip line are as simple as it gets to recording a video, pull it out, turn it on, aim and press record. Moving the video out the camera on the Internet is even simpler. The little camcorders have become the de facto standard for videos for social network because of the simplicity.

This past week The Flip updated their product line with addition of the MinoHD™ by adding more memory to allow recording for up two hours. Their software was also updated to add the option fo direct uploading to Facebook. Existing Flip owners will be able to update their software at no cost at The Flip website.

One thing Vaynerchuk mentioned about The Flip was having one attached to cell phone in an all in one package in the future. That may be possible considering network hardware giant Cisco has acquired The Flip.
