The E-P2 is the second digital Pen to off from Mount Olympus.

The E-P2 is the second digital Pen to off from Mount Olympus.

Olympus sends another Pen out into the world with the Olympus E-P2. Their marketing department has to be fighting over what their next slogan is going to be:

Keeping it Retro
or
Micro Four Thirds is here to stay

When I mentioned the Olympus E-P1 back in June, I kept the photograph the new camera on my desktop for probably a month. Opening the file up and admiring the economy of its size every so day or so. I really liked its compact classic styling. It was nod to the Pen line of cameras that made Olympus the company they are today.

The E-P2 comes in a higher price point than the E-P1, but for that price it adds features that include, are not limited to:

♦Accessory port to accommodate the included detachable VF-2 Electronic View Finder (EVF) or optional external microphone adapter EMA-1
♦A newly-developed Continuous Autofocus (C-AF) Tracking System tracks the subject across or back-and-forward through the frame
♦Two new art filters: Diorama & Cross Process for greater creative expression in your still images and HD videos
♦iEnhance to automatically adjust color and contrast for a more dramatic effect
♦Full Manual Control of shutter/aperture in Movie Mode
♦HDMI Control of camera’s playback functions using the TV Remote when the camera is connected to an HDTV

I haven’t had a chance to lay hands on one these yet and I will watching one to show at dealer soon. The more I look at the Pen line, especially the E-P2, I can see these little DSLR as the perfect travel companion for a Netbook. Both are small, light and ready to handle a range of task. Digital journalist and bloggers can run with the duo and do all the writing, researching, photographing, recording and video from almost anywhere.
