Huh?
This website, Gizmotastic.com, is a website that is really about nothing but will probably cover everything. It is just a collection of cool, geek-centric news and products, pop subculture and maybe a little politics to keep things interesting. For those that don’t know me that well, please understand I usually write with my tongue planted firmly in cheek. It is really hard to be politically correct all the time.
The next question on your mind, “where did you come up with that domain name ‘Gizmotastic.com’? Well that was a long drive. Gizmotastic was a odd phrase I would use to describe anything cool to my kids when they were younger. As the internet came into being I looked to register the name but it was already taken and the owner of the name wanted a small fortune for it. I could have got a .net, .org or etc extension but I just waited. A few years went by and one day long after the first bubble burst on the DotCom era I found the name on Ebay for about a 10,000th of what it was offered to me for. No matter who you are, you have to love Ebay for making it possible to purchase the unattainable at a fraction on the original cost.
My background is in newspapers, photography and for for sixteen years I was a police officer. It was while I was working at a newspaper that I began in the Internet trek of my life. That was at the very start of the commercialization of the internet and a period that change my life as well many that of many others.
I was raised in East Tennessee and live here now. You might not know this unless you live in Tennessee, but there are three states of Tennessee, West Tennessee, Middle Tennessee and East Tennessee. I was blessed to land in East Tennessee with the Smoky Mountains.
This blog did not start out to nonprofit, but it might as well be. I don’t believe anyone really makes a great return on the ads on their sites except those selling you the “get rich quick plans”.
That said if there is a link to a product or service it might be to a vendor that will be a referral fee if you make a purchase. This does not mean that the price increases, you pay the same price either way. In some cases the price might be lower. Some merchants make special offers to the readers of Gizmotastic, the post will advise of the discount if permitted by the vendor.
If there is a review of product or service that there has been a fee paid for the review it will be stated alone with the review. A paid review is not a guarantee of good review, I hate to pay a product or service on bad advice – so I’m not going to knowingly give bad advice.
If you’ve got questions, comments or just want to now why I look like a cartoon – feel free to email me a jethro<at>gizmotastic.com.
